Definition:
Americold's "Green Initiative" is defined as "being environmentally sound or beneficial, in reducing the consumption of natural resources by conserving, reusing, recycling, and increasing efficiency".
Purpose:
To insure that the associates and management of Americold Logistics understand
the policy of the company is to promote and maintain a culture that supports "Green"
behavior in all it's activities.
Senior Management Commitment:
The Senior Management Team of Americold Logistic understands the importance of being a responsible corporate citizen in caring for and respecting the environment as it relates to all company activities and initiatives. In addition, the full support for this initiative
is mandated by the CEO to all levels of Americold management and associates.
"Green" Initiatives:
Initiatives included in Americold "Green Strategy" are, but not limited to, the following categories:
Electrical energy
Water
Natural Gas
Recyclable materials
Responsible Chemical Management
Utilities:
Since Americold Logistic consumes over 700 million kWh of electrical energy annually the reduction of waste and the improvement in effiency is the number one initiative for all levels of management and associates.
However, water and natural gas are important resources and a concise effort by all must also be
made to insure that waste is reduced and efficiencies are improved here as well.
All levels of management and associates are required to do their part in reducing the waste of the above utilities and to participate in the programs and initiatives that are aimed at waste reduction and efficiency improvement.
Recycling:
Recycling is a very key portion of Americold's "Green Strategy" and each Plant Manager and Department Head have the responsibility of putting recycling programs in place and insuring that they are properly maintained. The following listed items are candidates for recycling however no facility or department is limited to just these items:
Batteries
Corrugated
Plastics
Oil, Solvents, Absorbents
Metals
Fluorescent Lamps
Protective Clothing
Paper
It is expected that Americold expand it's efforts in recycling and that all levels of management promote this on a regular basis to the associates so that it is fully embedded into our culture.
Electronic Warehouse Receipts and other Documents:
In line with the commitment of the Senior Management to its Going Green Policy of being "environmentally sound or beneficial, in reducing the consumption of natural resources" AmeriCold Logistics, LLC and its affiliates operate an auto-distribution process where electronic versions of warehouse documents are delivered by email to customers who choose to participate in the program, in place of sending the hard copy versions. These documents have included our Non-Negotiable Warehouse Receipts; transfer Receipts, invoices, month end reports, and related documents ("Documents").
For participating customers, we will continue to send electronic versions of these Documents as PDF attachments to email messages, directed to the email addressees provided by our customers, for the warehouse locations designated by our customers, in place of sending the hard copy versions of the Documents. However, as always, the hard copy versions are printed, issued and available for our customers at each warehouse as required, or upon request.
Chemical Responsibility:
Protecting the environment from the liquids & chemicals that we use on a regular basis is also included in Americold's "Green Strategy" and is just as important as any of the other items mentioned in this policy.
